Eliminating amp buzz - Lessons from the charmers session.

So we're on day 4 of recording a 5 track EP with the charmers, an up and coming band from the midlands, and we all get in early to set up guitar tones for the day. Suddenly we're hit with an onslaught of ground hum and noises! From nowhere our session descends in to a frenzy of plugging, unplugging, switching on, hair pulling and switching off. Eventually we strike upon a solution, but first lets learn more about the problem...

Flyering in the rain

So we took the new interns (Nadine and Sam) for a short stroll round our local area with a few flyers in hand. Thankfully they didn't moan at all (I think they're scared of Nathan) and after about 30 minutes of torrential rain and soggy flyers we ran back to the studio for a cup of hot coffee.

I reckon we'll pick this back up when the heavens have shut. But a good induction to Flipsides local marketing strategy (that sounds pretty impressive huh!)

Singing to a backing track?

Singers want to record to a backing track for a variety of reasons, perhaps they're singing a cover, or they don't have a band yet, maybe they're recording a vocal demo for admission in to stage school or recording a quick present for a loved one.

Whatever the reason, recording to a backing track allows you to focus your studio time on nailing your vocal takes and allows you to practise well in advance of the session.

We get a lot of artists wanting to record to backing track, and over years of experience we've learnt some tips and advice we'd love to share with you. Here it is:

1. Buying a premade Cover Version
2. Recording with an accompanist
3. Making an instrumental from scratch
4. Buying instrumentals online

Megan Evans - Charity CD

The friend of a popular teenager who died suddenly before Christmas has recorded a CD in her memory.

Philippa Chowne, aged 15, known as Pippa, collapsed and died at her home in Kineton on December 14 last year.

It is thought she died of a sudden cardiac arrest.

Megan Evans, came to us to record a CD to raise money for a charity Pippa supported.
