A little while ago I made an outrageous claim that I would give away a half days recording when we hit 400 followers on Twitter.
Well, we only flipping went and did it... so we're giving away 4 hours of studio time to the person or group who enters our little competition.
in order to win, simply :
1) Follow @flipsideaudio
2) Tweet "I'm in the running for FREE Studio time at @flipsideaudio, enter here http://bit.ly/c6wb8n"
3) leave a comment on this blog.
That's it!
the winner will be picked at random on the 8th October! Only one entry per person will count :)
Good luck.

The most important thing when recording...
Here at Flipside we're constantly trying to serve our artists needs. While we were doing the refurb and trying to work out where to place our cash we had to consider what artists REALLY value in their recording experience.
We made a list of the priorities that we, as musicians ourselves, have when getting our tracks sorted. See waht you think and add your own by commenting.
5) - A great Environment
Relaxed and vibey, a place you can really get creative and have fun!
4) - No wasted time
All the equipment working, fast working experienced engineers, quick setup, well prepared and ready to roll
3) - Experienced, friendly feedback
Someone who can work with you to make your music sound better, experience and skill really count!
2) - A good price
Something that won't break the bank! But you get what you pay for..
1) - A good quality result
The most important thing is walking away with something you're proud of at the end of the day, that makes people go "wow!"
We're working hard to meet all of these needs, and at flipside we think we've got a pretty good balance of all of these.
Comment now and tell us what you think!
Please let us know about your experience in studios, what really annoys you, or what do you really value when recording.
thanks,
the flipside team

New equipment, Shots of the studio
We've been doing a lot of work here at flipside to make sure we keep ourselves ahead of the game!
We've demoed and purchased our new Unity Audio Rock monitors (incredible Hi tech Ribbon tweeter designed monitors), Are currently demoing a new set of Audient preamps (Premium quality Solid State preamps) and have very nearly finished the refurb!
Here's some pics of the new setup in action as Breaks and myself work on a new song for an up and coming artist who has an incredible fresh sound. (I'm contractually obliged to not tell you who yet, but you'll hear it soon enough!)
We also had Andy Baines, the no.1 Photographer in the midlands to drop by and have a coffee, he was loving the track and couldn't help but whip out his camera... check him out at www.b72imaging.com

Refurb nearly complete
We've been busy!
We're constantly reinventing new ways to get your music sounding freaking incredible!!!
Lately we've invested in a whole new Monitoring lineup in the shape of Unity Audio Rocks, and they do exactly that... Rock!
But we've also been building a whole new, cleaner, fresher Desk for all our high end gear. We thought we'd share the build with you all.. So here is a quick Photo diary of the build.. All the ups and downs.. Hope to see you soon to try out the new and improved setup!
Pre build plans yeah.. I really built from this!

Wood cut by B&Q and ready to slap together

First steps

Coming together

Putting the racks in.. and realising they're wonky..

The moment I realised that I'd not put the support struts in.. Whooooops! you can see it sagging!

Leather Vinyl on rest and back and L.E.D lights in...

The desk is nearing completion, Can't decide whether to leave the sides as plain wood, to varnish or to paint it all black!

Busy Busy B flat
Well it's been hectic at the Flipside, Lots of new faces and some incredible old faces too.
Firstly, Rtkal a rapper from birmingham (I thought this guy had peaked with Wa gwan.. but I was soo wrong!) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LuD91-iO5og
Working with this guy reminds me why I love music so much. Not to mention @breakablebreaks, the resident flipside Hip Hop producer who can't help but squeeze out hits left right and centre. I'm sure he sometimes goes to the toilet and accidentally drops a banger.
Anyway.. Keep your ears out for RTkals new album coming.. when you least expect it.

Then theres Tammy a conscious emerging rapper from Coventry looking to stamp her authority on her own brand of intense and moving music.
then we've had Toke'n from Kombat breakers (BGT finalists), Harmony Hood (X factor boot campers) and now Nu Status (in X factor this year!!) popping in to stir up trouble and to flex his incredible hook writing talents in our general direction. He's preparing for a 6th August performance at the http://www.kasbahnightclub.com/ and the tunes we're working on are flat out bonkers...

Hell.. I'm sure there's more besides.. but that'll be for another update!
